Winter Blues?

January is set aside for National Mental Health Awareness, and we take this time to help individuals better understand mental health. Here are a few tips:

· Begin this year prioritizing mental health as part of overall well-being

· Educate yourself and others about mental health

· Reduce the stigma around mental health

· Recognize mental health is as important as physical health

A few recommendations to help you prioritize mental health this month and all the year through:

· BE AWARE: Monitor your emotional well-being including your moods, energy levels and ability to respond to challenges.

· SEEK HELP: If you experience ongoing feelings of hopelessness, lack of sleep, loss of energy, restlessness, and irritability, don’t be afraid to seek help.

· EXPRESS YOURSELF: Express your feelings by journaling, drawing, or painting.

· CARE FOR YOURSELF: Avoid alcohol and drugs, and revive your mind through exercise, and try to find new things to do to break stress levels and monotony you may feel.

The National Alliance on Mental Health Illness works year ‘round to break the stigma of mental health and we support their work in helping you and your loved ones to have the best year yet, both physically and mentally.
