Fall Prevention

Brochure

Falls are the leading cause of injury and accidental death in adults over the age of 65 years. New or unfamiliar surroundings, improper footwear, cumbersome furniture arrangements and distractions all can cause a person to accidentally stumble and fall, causing serious injury and even death.

However, implementing a few prevention practices at home can decrease a person's risk of an unnecessary fall.

What Can BSA ComPassion Do?

Matter of Balance

Matter of Balance is an 8-week structured group intervention that emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance.

Our physical and occupational therapy team can assist with making your home safer to prevent unnecessary falls, while designing a program specific to your needs.

Call us today to find out when our next Matter of Balance class is being held.
